Rockinger & GDR (East German) coupling heads
Rockinger is a name closely linked to the history of German transport logistics. After 1990, Rockinger came to the rescue of many owners of GDR trailers and caravans by continuing and technically optimising production of the proven coupling heads made in Paderborn and Wechmar. Today's KK 92 models are the direct, fully compatible successors to the original TGL-standard couplings.
Technical variants and compatibility
As GDR trailers had different drawbar connections depending on the model (HP series, caravans, home-built trailers), Rockinger now offers three main variants, all approved for a gross weight of up to 1600 kg and a nose weight of 120 kg:
- KK 92 version A: The replacement for KK 71 and KK 82 version A. Fits round-tube drawbars with a diameter of 70 mm. Often found on unbraked HP models and Camptourist folding trailers.
- KK 92 version B: The standard replacement for KK 70 and KK 82 version B. Designed for round tubes with a diameter of 60 mm. This is the typical coupling for braked trailers and caravans such as the QEK Junior or Bastei.
- KK 92 version F: Specifically for 70 mm square profiles or C-profiles. Often fitted to heavy GDR goods trailers or special builds.
Safety and modernisation
Compared with the old GDR originals, the modern Rockinger variants offer decisive advantages: they have a push button on the side for releasing and an integrated eye for fitting a padlock. They also meet all current EU safety standards while retaining the classic "East German dimension" (bolt hole spacing usually 54 mm horizontal) exactly.
Do you own an HP trailer or QEK caravan?
Before ordering, simply measure the outside diameter of your drawbar tube (60 mm or 70 mm). The Rockinger KK 92 models are "plug-and-play" spare parts that fit directly onto the original drawbar without drilling.
Our team will be happy to advise you on the right coupling:
