Description
The breakaway cable with a snap hook at one end and an open hook at the other connects the overrun coupling of a braked trailer to the towing vehicle and triggers the handbrake lever in the event of separation.
An open hook needs a closed eye into which it engages securely, otherwise it can come unhooked through vibration. When replacing a cable with ring or clevis, therefore check the connection point.
Route the cable so that it does not become taut in bends and does not drag on the road. After it has been triggered or if it is damaged, always use a new cable.
